If you live under a rock (or maybe just in a place devoid of public television), you might not know about Downton Abbey. Here is what you need to know: watch it.
Yesterday was the Season 3 premiere, for which many of us have been waiting with bated breath (I was going to make a bad Bates pun, but restrained myself!). Others of us have been waiting with yarn and needles in hand because Shannon at luvinthtmommyhood (designer of the Downton Cowl) has had the genius idea of hosting a Downton Knit Along! We are knitting Downton-inspired knits: things a character might wear, Rav designs with Downton-related names, or designing things for either category.
I was wonderfully distracted by the show so I waited until it was over before casting on a Featherweight Cardi in Madelinetosh Prairie. It's something I can imagine Lady Sybil wearing as she embarks on her new life. I'm also planning on knitting a Wispy Cardi, which is structured and elegant like something Lady Mary wears (I drool over her wardrobe...), though I'll likely do it in yellow, which is maybe more of a Lady Edith color, I think.
Oh look, I got a little fan-girly! John thinks the show is totally boring and terrible, so I can't gush except with my knitting gals, who are all addicted! :) If you aren't watching, go forth and watch, then join the KAL! If you are watching, come join the KAL! You can see my little button off to the right there. That should take you to the relevant KAL blogs. Sign up for the KAL (in the very first post) and you'll be eligible for prizes at the end as long as you have started knitting a project for it. If you do sign up, be sure to join the luvinthemommyhood Ravelry group and the chatter there. These ladies are really helpful, thoughtful, fun, inspirational, encouraging, and just plain amazing! I've met a lot of really neat ladies there. It'll be a blast talking Downton with them for the next month or so!
I hope to see you in the KAL!
Then there were also the lucky ones who's got to watch series 3 weeks ago! That KAL sounds like so much fun! You definitely picked out some fun knits for it and they do seem very Downton. I think that it is funny that John doesn't like it, both my brother and my dad like it, although my dad can't tell half the characters apart. I can't wait until next Sunday, can you?
ReplyDeleteIt took me a long time to figure out who was who too, haha. John actually remembered very minor character and their situations from the only other episode he watched. :P He tolerated it pretty well. :) I can't wait!
Deletei LLLLLOVE downton abbey! but we don't actually get a television feed... (i know, we're wierdos. we do all of our watching via netflix streaming or dvd) so i'm going to have to plug my ears to all of the buzz, and rewatch seasons one and two ad infinitum until it comes out on dvd, in like... 17 years. (ok maybe not that long, but it feels that way!)
ReplyDeleteI envy you, really. I watch WAY too much tv! I won't spoil it for you, promise! Though you can watch it week by week with us on PBS.org.... ;)
