Pattern Ideas?

I got a new phone last month, which means new apps, which means I can type blogs up on my phone on the bus much easier and maybe even add pictures*, so I hopefully won't be quite so blog-faily. :) Just pretend like I did blog last week and the week before. :S I thought about it really hard, but mind-to-blog must not be a thing yet.

A new phone also means that I need to knit a new phone cozy.

It's a leedle bit small...
I haven't had a lot of time to think about what a new one will look like since I've been knitting so hard on two big projects and thinking about dissertation and researchy things. I hope you can help me!

Two required features are a pocket for the phone (of course!) and a pocket for my bus pass and I.D. Should I knit it, sew it, or crochet it? What sort of closure should it have? This button thing isn't ideal. It takes too long to get the phone out. If I knit or crochet it, should I do ribbing and cables again, just ribbing, just cables, or something else? I can imagine lace working....

Do you have a cozy for your phone? What does it look like? What do you like and dislike about it?

I'm absolutely willing to write up a pattern for whatever we come up with so I'm not hogging ideas just for my own use. ;)

My silence has been part part-time job, part school work (the two are intertwined, really), and part adventures with John. I'll tell you about the adventures very soon. Probably Friday if I can't figure out how to wear my latest FO by then. How the heck are you guys?! I miss you!

*I tried. Didn't work. Oh well, a little extra effort never hurt anyone. :)

  1. It seems like I can never get a cozy opened and answer my phone in time. I always carry a bag these days so a cozy isn't very necessary, but if I used one I'd want either a magnet or simple snap closure. Or maybe just elastic or an elastic yarn to cinch the open end together so it could slide right out.
I was really excited to get an ipad so I could blog wherever I am, but blogger no longer seems to let me edit posts via a mobile device. Maybe there's something I don't know. If you figure it out, please share. That's one reason I'm now an infrequent blogger.

    1. I have snaps, so I was thinking about that too. I like the idea of an elastic. I don't own any Apple devices and I just get to Blogger via the internet on whatever device I've got, so I haven't had any trouble (though you can see how often I try it these days! :S). Does Google have an app for iPads?

  2. Oh that cozy is cute, I like the cables for sure but I don't think the button would be practical for me...it already takes me about 5 minutes to find the phone in my handbag! I've seen loads of sewn cozies but not so many knitted ones so I vote knitted :)

    1. Finding it is definitely a problem. :P Maybe if there were an i-cord attaching it to a strap...? This one used to have just a button hole, which wasn't too bad, but after my crocheted chain came undone, I was too lazy to redo it. I will definitely knit it! And I also really like the cables, so I'm leaning heavily towards keeping that as well.

  3. I say sew. More versatile. More easily modified. And more durable.

    1. I just got a sewing machine I need to get used to, so I'm tempted to sew one and knit one. This knitted one has suffered years of abuse and it looks about the same as when I knitted it. I feel like knitted fabric absorbs more of an impact unless you stuff a sewn cozy. It's saved my phone a million times!
