I picked this yarn up at our yarn shop's first annual stash-busting event. I got it for $3! There's almost 500 grams of 100% worsted weight wool here and I haven't quite decided what to do with it yet. I don't usually gravitate towards pink, but this is just the perfect muted shade of pink that I couldn't say no. I don't know what brand it is or anything, so I don't know what yardage I have either. Some of my friends think it might be handspun because each cake is a very different weight, but I just don't know.
In any case, I was thinking either Flowing Lines or Sullivan. What do you think? Can you think of any other sort of simple sweater patterns for about 900-1000 yards? I was also thinking just a simple stockinette sweater would really show off the heathered pink. I guess I should just do a swatch and see what happens! Maybe I'll design something...hmm....
I'm itching like crazy to cast something on, but I have to finish a sample shawl (almost there!), study, and finish a couple other stray projects. Whatever the pink yarn wants to be will have to wait until late summer or fall. Sybil is back on track, just needing sleeves and a band. I'll show you Wednesday. She's gorgeous and well worth the time-out. There are a couple other things I might pull out again, but I haven't decided yet. Depends on how springy spring decides to be. If it stays cold, I'll pull out heavier stuff, if it warms up, I've got some lovely legwarmers that need some attention. :)
I'll be back Wednesday. I hope I won't forget to post this week. :P Keep knitting! I'll see you soon!
Ooo mystery yarn! How fun! You could take close up photos of it and put them on Ravelry, I'm pretty sure there is a group devoted to identifying mystery yarns. I wonder why the yarn store would have been selling handspun, I'm very intrigued. It would be so much fun to see what you might design for it, although please make sure that it is much better planned out than my sweater of long, unending pain.
ReplyDeleteThat is an excellent idea! I also thought it might be Cascade Eco+, but I can't find that color anywhere. We did a destash event where people just brought in stuff they didn't want and sold it for store credit. It was a lot of fun! There is some great stash yarn in the area. :D Your sweater turned out GREAT! I only hope anything I design turns out that great!
Deletefirst off, a stash busting event at an lys is a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeletesecond-of-ly, of the two sweaters you mentioned, flowing lines strikes me as slightly more suited to the heathered pink. my current absolute favorite sweater of all time is tea with jam and bread (that's my favorite project of that pattern...) so if you want to supplement in two other colors (hmmm... like cream and... grey? or black and grey? or teal and mint?) that could be an option!
It was a blast! I'm leaning heavily towards flowing lines too. I wanted to do it in tweedy pink, so heathery pink is just as good. You are full of great knitting suggestions! I love that sweater, too, and the pink would look great with a natural and a dark grey or mint (my new favorite color!).
