The Dress

At Last

Pattern: Lacy "New Look" Dress by Claire Montgomerie in Knitting Vintage
Yarn: Valley Yarns 2/14 Alpaca Silk in Natural
Needles: US 5, 4, and 3
Project Page

I can get married now, yay! It isn't planned for a while (or at all, really), but now when it inches closer, I'll have one less thing to worry about! It's not quite complete as a wedding dress, but the knitting is all done. I envision a sash with flowers (I pinned one), a tulle underskirt (pinned a pattern for that too), and a champagne slip. Simple, yet cute. Just what I wanted!

I have nothing good to say about this pattern, so I won't say anything at all (Thumper taught me that!). Check out the project page for my rants and modifications. Right now the sleeves are a touch too tight, so I'll probably have to redo the bind-off. Otherwise, the fit is great!

The yarn is also pretty fabulous. It's incredibly soft and has a wonderful halo. Of course, being lace weight, the dress is also very light and airy. The silk gives it nice strength. I hope it will keep the dress from growing. It will be stored folded up, just in case.

Since it's my wedding dress, I can't share any full modeled pictures. You'll just have to wait until the wedding day photos. Whenever that will be.... :)

We need eloping suggestions. National parks, spots not frequented by people in overwhelming crowds, preferably in the west. Have any favorites?

  2. You finished it! It looks beautiful (the parts I can see) and I think it's awesome that you knitted your own wedding dress.

Jasmine (the 5yo on my knee) says "I love her necklace!" :)

    1. Thank you! Tell Jasmine thanks, too. :) It was my mother's pearl. She got it when she turned 16 and I got it when I turned 16.

    1. It is a beautiful pattern. Only the dress will be handmade, but somehow that seems like enough, haha.

  4. This looks so gorgeous! I can't wait to see your wedding photos. You put so much of yourself into this, you should be so proud to wear it!
As far as romantic getaways- I am a big fan of California. We are in Zion Park in Utah right now at the campground, but there are bed and breakfasts In town. The campground has no water hook ups or showers, so a B and B would be better unless you like roughing it. We are nestled right in the hills. Every direction I look is beautiful, plus there's some fantastic hikes and other nearby parks.

    1. Thank you! I drove through Zion once and it really was gorgeous. We don't really rough it, so B&Bs are a good thing!

  6. You may plan on eloping but we MUST have a party. The shop may have closed but we are still here. The dress looks great. Can't believe you have it basically done but then I have been gone awhile :-)

  7. My Brother in Law got married at Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe. It was beautiful, overlooking the lake. They had just their parents and siblings there, it was very small, which was good, there wasn't a lot of room for a big wedding party. I think the spot does tend to get busy though. Let me know if you want more info!
